Biological product effective in the control of nematodes of different species and genera, such as Meloidogyne spp., Radopholus similis and Pratylenchus spp. HeberNem® increases the root system and foliage of plants. It allows the control of nematodes that affect horticultural and fruit crops. Increases the quality and productivity of crops. It is friendly with the environment. It is not phytotoxic, even at concentrations 100 times higher than recommended. It is not toxic to man, animals, plants or the environment. HeberNem® is for professional use.
The active agent in HeberNem® is the gram-positive bacteria formerly known as Tsukamurella paurometabola, strain C-924, which has been re-evaluated as Brevibacterium celere, using molecular techniques (16S). The C-924 strain was isolated from the soil, characterized and formulated in such a way that the microorganism maintains its viability and nematicidal properties. This species belongs to the group of actinomycetes common in soil and is found in the environment.
Wettable powder.
Bags of 250 g.
Soil actinomycetes strain C-924: ≥ 2,5 x 1013 CFU.
Store at 2 to 8 °C.
- Attention! Once the bags are opened, they must be used in their entirety or the excess product must be discarded, since when exposed to air, it begins to lose its stability.
- May be harmful if inhaled (dust, fog).
Conditions for application
Soil preparation
To ensure a good soil treatment, the first measure, very important, is its preparation.
It will be required to do it at a good depth (not less than 30 cm), carrying out the tasks that allow uniformity and softness in 100% of the prepared area. This objective is achieved by moving the soil in good weather, which will only be possible using sprinkler irrigation before the break and, if necessary, after it.
The presence of lumps in the moment of the application of the product cancels its nematicide effect, since the eggs and juveniles of the nematodes are out of reach of the solution that contains the active agent.
Levels of organic matter required in soils
The soil analysis will be available in each case, allowing to know what levels of organic matter exist.
At least 3 % (optimal 4 %) of available organic matter in the soil (determined by the Walkley-Black method) and 12 % (optimal 18 %) of total organic matter (determined by the incineration or gravimetric method) are required.
Analysis of the source of organic matter used must also be available. The best sources of organic matter for each type of soil should be studied in each place; but in a general sense, the most adequate to guarantee the biological activity of Brevibacterium celere strain C-924 (active agent of HeberNem®) are those rich in amino acids (e.g. compost). Also guanos (or manure) have been effective; earthworm humus, despite being largely mineralized, has guaranteed very good results.
The bionematicide HeberNem® should not be applied without first making the required correction; that is, if the soil organic matter is below the required levels, it is an indispensable requirement to amend it before the first application of HeberNem®. The organic matter must be well distributed in the profile from 0 to 20 cm deep (most important from 3 to 15 cm) in the quarry; only if it is known that the minimum levels indicated above exist, it can be applied localized.
Previous nematological analysis
Before the application of the bionematicide HeberNem®, the results of the nematological analysis (existing gradology), issued by a duly accredited laboratory and in correspondence with the crops and species of nematodes, are required.
Irrigation requirements and external and internal drainage to apply HeberNem®
- Irrigation must meet the established standards for each crop, soil type and time of year.
- The irrigation system can not have tupición or salidero.
- The external drains, coming from the rains, cannot penetrate to the interior of the houses of cultivation or greenhouses. It is necessary to make sure that the collectors and perimeter plinths guarantee that there is no penetration of water currents to the interior of the houses.
- Taking into account the topography of each area to be treated, drains will be made to ensure the effectiveness of the product.
The adverse effect of heavy rainfall should be taken into account, when erosion, splashes or other conditions occur that may alter the results of the application of bionematicide. If the rain washed the product by any means, before the 7 days of application, the application must be repeated.
In order to achieve optimal results with HeberNem®, the above requirements must be met.
Dosage, frequency and application methods
Application diagrams
Protected crops (vegetables):
Conventional scheme:
a) Application on the substrate for the root ball of seedlings
- Dosage: 0,025 kg/100 kg of substrate
- Resuspend 25 g of the product in 10 L of water.
- Mix the suspension with 100 kg of the substrate, using a backpack (manual sprinkler) or watering can.
- Let the substrate rest between 3 and 7 days, before sowing the seed.
Warning! HeberNem® has a stimulating effect on the vitality and growth of postures; therefore, it shortens the seedling period by several days, which should be taken into account.
b) First application of pre-seeding in the soil
Dosage: 2.5 kg/ha
Apply HeberNem® seven (7) days before transplant or direct sowing. In low infestations of nematodes, apply it 3 days before.
Localised drip irrigation system (ideal conditions for applying the product):
Resuspend the product at the rate of 250 g in 20 L of water, in a container that will be connected to the localized irrigation system.
Warning! It should be noted that the localised water requirement (drip) varies according to the type of soil and the phenological state of the plant, so this can be (for example) 200 mL/plant at the beginning, but in more advanced stages could increase 400 or 600 mL/plant or more. The objective of the irrigation application is to cover the highest possible percentage of active roots, respecting the irrigation standards for each type of soil and the phenological phase of the crop.
Manual sprinkler irrigation:
- Guarantee the delivery of 50 – 100 mL of suspension per plant in the area where the root system will be developed.
- The manual sprayer must be free of residues of other products.
- Ensure by agitation the homogeneity of the suspension and do not leave more than 1 hour unapplied after preparation.
In all cases, it must be guaranteed that the final solution covers the area that the seedling will occupy; therefore, the volume of the final solution to be applied must be adjusted for each type of soil, crop and phenological stage.
During the 7 days prior to transplant the soil will be kept in tempera, using the initial watering standard.
c) Second application 14 days after the transplant
Dosage: 2,5 kg/ha
– Localised drip irrigation system (ideal conditions for applying the product): proceed as in the first application.
– Manual sprinkler irrigation: proceed as in the first application. Apply between 70 and 120 mL to guarantee coverage of the root zone.
d) Third application 21 days after the second application
Dosage: 2,5 kg/ha
- Proceed as for the second application.
- Taking into account the foliar development of the plants, it is recommended the use of ferti-irrigation, and try not to use manual spraying.
Caution! In case of very high infestations of nematodes, it is recommended to shorten the application cycle from 21 to 18 days and make one or two more applications after the previous application.
In the applications on the ground, it must be taken into account that the suspension of the product is directed to the rhizosphere of each vegetable plant. As the sowing frames in these crops range from 10,000 to 20,000 plants/ha, the amount of product received by each plant in its roots will vary from 0.125 to 0.25 g/plant.
Other crops in which HeberNem® is used:
- Banana: Dosage and frequency: 2 kg/ha every 4 months for high infestations, and 1 kg/ha for medium or low infestations.
- Guava: Dosage and frequency: 1 kg/ha every 2 months.
- Sacha inchi: Dosage and frequency: 2.5 kg/ha every 2 months in high infestations and 2.5 kg/ha every 3 months for low infestations and promotion plantations. The ideal application method for all crops is the localised irrigation system, without ruling out other variants that guarantee the distribution of the product in the rhizosphere.
Do not apply HeberNem® mixed or in any combination with the products to which it is “sensitive” or “highly sensitive” (Table). Compatible with 7 of the 19 products tested; however, it is recommended not to use them mixed or simultaneously.

Compounds that favor the effectiveness of HeberNem®
The liquid humus favours the permanence in the soil of the active agent of HeberNem® and, therefore, increases its activity. Yeast extracts and other compounds rich in amino acids, chitin, chitosan and organic compounds, when applied mixed with HeberNem® are synergists of nematicidal activity, but should always be tested on a small scale before generalizing any practice.
The crops studied are horticultural crops (tomato, pepper, cucurbits and lettuce), banana, guava and sacha inchi.
It is presumed that for other crops affecting other nematode species and genera, the use of HeberNem® is also effective.
