New Delhi- based Kee Pharma Ltd has launched Melagenina Plus in Chennai. Melagenina is claimed to be a major curative medicine for the treatment of Vitiligo, a skin disease characterised by patches of unpigmented skin.
Announcing the launch at a press meet here yesterday Dr Alok Dev, head, International Marketing, Kee Pharma said International clinical trials have reported 84 per cent success rate with no incidence of relapse. In all, over 13000 patients from 123 countries had been treated by Melagenina Plus in the initial 15 years of its launch in Cuba.
Melagenina Plus, manufactured at the Cento de Histoterapia, Cuba, is a concentrate of low molecular weight melanogenic lipoprotein isolated from human placenta in alcoholic medium.
He said Vitiligo which is often referred to as leucoderma can hardly be called as a disease but a cosmetic problem. Due to retarded melanin formation, there is loss of pigmentation. The global prevalence of Vitiligo is two per cent including the white skin communities. However, epidemiologically higher cases were recorded in India and Mexico. The medicine to be available in select pharmaceutical shops in the city on prescription by doctors. A 235 ml bottle would cost Rs 3,600.
