What impact do CIGB products have?

Blood leukocytes

Leukocytes, also called white blood cells, are a heterogeneous group of blood cells responsible for the immune response involved in the body's defense against foreign substances or infectious agents (antigens). The number of leukocytes in blood is usually an indicator of disease. The normal white blood cell count are between 4 and 11 x 109 / L, and is usually expressed as 4000-11,000 white blood cells per microliter.

Hebervital ® Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor (GCSF) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by monocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells. It is obtained by recombinant DNA technology and constitutes the active pharmaceutical ingredient of Hebervital: it restores the number of leukocytes in blood and corrects the neutropenia caused by chemotherapy treatments. It improves the quality of life of cancer patients and reduces the incidence of infections.

Skin cancer

The skin protects the body against heat, sunlight, injuries and infections. It also helps to control body temperature and acts as a protective barrier and the site for water and fat storage. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. It is generally formed on the skin exposed to sunlight, but can occur anywhere on the body. Skin cancer begins in the epidermis (outer layer), which is composed of squamous cells, basal cells and melanocytes.

Heberferon® The formulation consists of a mixture of IFN alpha and gamma contained in a single vial with synergistic properties based on its antiproliferative activity. Data from molecular studies demonstrate the inhibition of several elements of the hedgehog signaling cascade, a system related to the development of non-melanoma skin tumors.

A safe pregnancy

The pregnancy test is a test that is used to affirm or rule out a possible pregnancy. All pregnancy tests aim to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) also called pregnancy hormone.

Heberfast Line Test for early pregnancy diagnosis: a simple, fast and reliable method. It must be done from the first day of absence of menstruation. If it is not regular, it is recommended to do it or repeat it a week after the scheduled date for the arrival of the period. It can be done at any time of the day, although for greater safety, it is recommended to do it with the first urine in the morning, which is the one with the highest concentration of hCG hormone.

Chronic Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver that can lead to both an acute condition and a chronic illness. Hepatitis or chronic liver disease and carries a high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer. The onset of chronic infection is very common in infants infected through their mother or before 5 years of age.

Hepatitis B is also transmitted by percutaneous or mucosal exposure to blood or different infected body fluids, as well as through saliva and menstrual, vaginal and seminal fluids.
In some cases hepatitis B can also cause a chronic liver infection, which can later lead to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.

HeberNasvac® Vaccine formulation for therapeutic use in patients with chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is composed by the mixture of the surface and nucleocapsid antigens of HBV (HBsAg and HBcAg, respectively) obtained by recombinant methods. HeberNasvac has two presentations, one for intranasal administration and another for subcutaneous injection.

Acute myocardial infarction

The term acute myocardial infarction, often abbreviated as AMI and known in the colloquial language as heart attack or infarction, reflects the death of cardiac cells caused by ischemia resulting from the imbalance between the demand and the supply of blood supply through coronary circulation.

Other conditions may include: Deep vein thrombosis, Permanent vascular access thrombosis, Valvular heart prosthesis dysfunction due to thrombi.

Heberkinasa®-recombinant streptokinase-is obtained by recombinant DNA techniques. It causes a rapid lysis of the intracoronary thrombus and prevents ischemic necrosis of the myocardium. It improves ventricular function and limits the infarcted area, and reduces the risk of pulmonary embolism, facilitating rapid removal of the plunger.

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis C virus which can cause both acute and chronic, the severity of which varies between a mild condition that lasts a few weeks, and a serious illness for life. The hepatitis C virus is transmitted through exposure to small quantities of blood. This may happen through injection drug use, unsafe injection practices, unsafe health care, and the transfusion of unscreened blood and blood products. The CIGB has experience in the production of interferon (IFN) alpha since 1981 and counts with the necessary technology for the process of pegylation, which the purification of the pegylated conjugate derived from the interferon alpha-2b was carried out in 2005.

The PEG-Heberon® product, aimed at the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C, is combined with ribavirin, and has allowed to reach more than 40% sustained virological response in patients with genotype 1 virus and without prior treatment. The active ingredient of PEG-Heberon® is interferon alfa-2b conjugated with Polyethylene glycol 40 kDa. It is also used for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B.

Viral, immunological and neoplastic diseases

A viral disease (or viral infection) occurs when an organism is invaded by pathogenic viruses and / or contagious viral particles (virions) that can adhere to the surface and / or penetrate susceptible cells. An immune disease is a disorder caused by abnormal or absent immune system mechanisms. The term neoplasia is used in medicine to designate an abnormal mass of tissue. It occurs because the cells are multiplied at a rate higher than normal. Neoplasms can be benign when are spread only locally but malignant when they behave aggressively, compress nearby tissues and are spread at a distance.

Some examples are: Human papillomavirus infection (sexually transmitted infection such as genital warts and cancers), Viral hepatitis type B and C (Liver), Shingles ((herpes zoster) is a vesicant (blistering) and painful skin rash due to varicella-zoster virus), Infections by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Neoplasms: Hematopoeic tissues and solid tumors, Peyronie's disease, Multiple sclerosis.

Heberon Alfa R® - Recombinant human interferon alpha 2b - produced by the recombinant DNA technology, is an important biological response modifier. It offers an excellent therapeutic response to viral diseases, immunological and neoplasms. Main biological effects: antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory.

Nematodes

Nematodes are interesting organisms and too small to be seen by the naked eye, which generally go unnoticed in everyday life by their existence hidden from man and animals and creatures of mother earth. They provoke or by plants that spoil and die.

HeberNem is a biological nematicide, has proven to be environmentally friendly, efficient alternative, which complements the action of chemical nematicides, under an integrated pest management scheme. The product has been successfully evaluated in the systems of green hose plantations dedicated to the production of vegetables, semi-protected crops and banana and guava plantations.

Looking after the children

Hepatitis B (attacks the liver) and Haemophilus influenzae type b also known as Hib [type of bacteria] are 2 of those diseases that attack the children. Hib includes meningitis (infection of the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord), pneumonia (lung infection), and epiglottitis (severe throat infection).

Pentavalent vaccine prevents hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type b as well as diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough.

-Contains antigens widely used in the world as part of other vaccines
-Reduce the number of injections
-Increase coverage in vaccination programs

Cattle tick

The diseases transmitted by the tick Rhipicephalus microplus is an important cause that limits the cattle productivity. A high infestation of R. microplus ticks causes losses in their body condition and can sometimes cause death due to stress and blood loss. When a cattle is highly infested, ticks can be all over the body. In a slight infestation the neck, chest, base of the tail, abdomen, crotch, testicles, base of the udder and ears are the main places selected by the ticks. The skin is damaged due to high infestations due to the tick bites which reduces the value of the skins that are sometimes not commercialized.

GAVAC® Immunogen against cattle tick. An active immunization of bovine cattle against ticgks based on a peptide of the ribosomal protein P0 of Rhipicephalus genus ticks from one month old.

-Reduces the frequency between tick baths
-Less environmental pollution
-Progressively control infestations and acts against ticks resistant to chemical ticks
-Does not interfere with the action of vaccines or medications
-There is no withdrawal period or lack

Diabetic foot

Diabetes is a disease causing high blood glucose levels. Glucose comes from the foods we eat. High blood sugar levels can cause serious complications in your eyes, kidneys and nerves. Diabetes can also cause heart disease, stroke, and the need to amputate a limb. Pregnant women may also develop diabetes, called gestational diabetes.

In diabetic patients, there is a deterioration of the healing process due mainly to a relative deficit of the growth factors, among them the EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor).

Scientists at the CIGB developed Heberprot-P®, a novel and first-in-class product that contains recombinant human epidermal growth factor (hrCRF) in an injectable formulation, which is administered by intralesional infiltration directly into the wound for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (UPD), to accelerate the healing of deep and complex ulcers, either neuropathic or ischemic. Heberprot-P accelerates the healing process and reduces the risk of amputation.

Non-digestible natural sugars for Productions

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are non-digestible natural sugars, consisting of 2 to 4 units of fructose linked to a terminal glucose acting as a soluble fiber and its effect on humans and animals. Its ingestion favors a beneficial intestinal flora, and promotes the selective proliferation of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.

Fructosyltransferase: new biocatalyst for the production of fructooligosaccharides from sucrose is an enzyme in the form of powder, produced at high levels in the yeast Pichia pastoris.

It can be attractive for several types of productions, from a very simple technological process (in a stirred tank type reactor):

-Producers interested in high quality FOS.
-Sugar producers interested in diversifying their industry towards higher value-added productions (FOS).
-Manufacturers of yoghurts and prebiotic products, with the interest of producing symbiotics, which produce prebiotics in their facilities.

Haemophilus influenzae type B

Haemophilus influenzae type B is a type of bacteria that causes serious infections, including meningitis (infection of the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord), pneumonia (lung infection) and epiglottitis (severe throat infection).

The vaccine against Hib called Quimi-Hib® conjugate vaccine, is composed of oligosaccharides obtained by chemical synthesis and conjugated to tetanus toxoid as a carrier protein. It provides active immunization for children from 2 months to 5 years of age against invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type.

Classical swine fever

Classical swine fever (CSF) is a disease caused by an infectious contagious virus characteristic of swine, which affects domestic and wild pigs, and is widespread in the world. It is transmitted from mothers to their offspring and / or direct contact between healthy pigs with sick animals. Among the symptoms may include: fever, anorexia, lethargy, hemorrhage, cyanosis, conjunctivitis, transient constipation followed by diarrhea, occasional vomiting, dyspnea, cough, ataxia, seizures, prostration, irregular appetite, growth retardation, miscarriage, death.

Provac® protein subunit vaccine against classical swine fever virus.
-Eliminates the transmission of the virus between the pigs that live together and from mothers to children
-Provides early protection after 7 days of vaccination
-Protection for more than 6 months with 2 doses of the vaccine
-Allows differentiated diagnoses between carrier and healthy animals

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is an infectious disease of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus, belonging to the family Hepadnaviridae (DNA hepatotropic virus) and characterized by hepatocellular necrosis and inflammation. It can cause an acute or chronic process, which can end in cirrhosis.

Heberbiovac HB® The recombinant hepatitis B vaccine contains a recombinant surface antigen protein preparation of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg). This protein is obtained through DNA recombination procedures. It is very safe and immune; also protects against the hepatitis B virus and its sequelae. The production of Heberbiovac HB is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO).
